The Federal Government's announcement of support for Bombardier Aerospace last week should generally be viewed as good news for all Montreal aerospace companies, not just Bombardier. In spite of the usual criticisms and complaints, the fact is, many local aerospace companies depend on a healthy Bombardier for survival, just as BA relies on them for ongoing support for their many programs in an increasingly competitive market. The announcement, along with the earlier one by the Quebec Government, should provide a measure of financial, and moral support needed at a critical stage in the game. Unfortunately, once you've made the commitment to take a seat at this particular table, and the cards have been dealt, walking away is usually not the best option. However, for those of us who've been around for awhile, and have short memories, remember that it took Boeing over 10 years before they started to recuperate their investment on the 747 program, -so let's not expect miracles in the coming months. At least now that this particular issue has been taken care of, the government can once again look into some of the other aerospace projects that have been stuck on the back burner for far too long.
